Damp proofing

If you have damp, we have the solution..

Rising damp, Penetrative damp, Condensation.

Identifying if you have damp is crucial to protect the structure of your building, Depending on the severity of the problem, damage to property can become quite extensive if it is not dealt with quickly and the raised moisture levels in the atmosphere can also cause problems with health.

If you have damp re- plastering over it is not the solution and will cure the problem. We can help you identify if you have damp and if so we can give the correct treatment to cure the problem, some of the main treatments are injection dpc and tanking solutions.

One of the most common damp problems is rising damp, rising damp happens when a DPC (damp proof course) is damaged or bridged to allow damp to travel past it and up the wall.

Rising damp is often identified by “tide marks” on the lower section of the walls. The ‘tide mark’ is caused by salts (mostly nitrates and chlorides) contained in the ground water. When evaporation happens at the highest point these salts accumulate and show at the peak of the rising damp.

If you have rising damp you may also notice decaying skirting boards and floorboards, crumbling or salt stained plaster and peeling paint and wallpaper.

Signs of rising damp are:-

  • ‘Tide marks’ on the walls up to about 1 metre caused by evaporation and salts from the ground.
  • Damp patches and staining about 1 metre up a wall from the ground
  • Wallpaper coming off or peeling from the wall
  • Decaying skirting boards
